USAID Egyptian Pioneers
Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must be committed to returning to work for the same institution that they are currently working with during the time of the application for at least two years after graduation.
  • Applicants must be fully employed at the Government of Egypt entities and non-Government of Egypt Entities that submitted the Expressions of Interest (EOIs). 
  • Applicants must be committed to transferring the knowledge obtained from the degree program to other colleagues in the workplace. 
  • Short-term training applicants should demonstrate ToT/Training skills or the ability to transfer knowledge and cascade information from training programs to colleagues upon completion of the training with close monitoring and support from employer and USAID Egyptian Pioneers team. This can be done either by training colleagues at home institution, or by developing a team of co-workers to collaborate in planning and developing training modules, or by participating in ToT activities. 
  • Inclusion, diversity, and women empowerment are key principles for USAID Egyptian Pioneers. Therefore, we encourage females and persons with disabilities to apply for the available scholarships. 
  • U.S University applicants need to understand that if selected, they would have to commit to traveling to the U.S. unaccompanied for the duration of the program. Applicants cannot bring any family members or dependents with them to the U.S. 
  • For applicants accepted to programs taught in the U.S.: While on the university campus in the U.S., must have the ability to engage substantially with the mentor-professor and conduct high-quality research and studies independently. To the extent possible, to serve as a mentor for the undergraduate scholars of USAID Egyptian Pioneers during their study abroad semester in the same university.
  • Applicants must have the approval of his/her department or home institution to apply for the scholarship and provide one recommendation letter.
  • U.S. master’s degree: applicants must be able to complete their degree program within one year up to two years depending on the program with no possibility of extension to the study duration.
  • For postdoctoral studies: applicants must be able to finish their research and write the paper within 3 or 6 months in the U.S. to have it ready for delivery in Egypt.
  • Preference is given to those with proof of academic excellence, community engagement, participation in conferences, and training certifications.
  • Preference is given to those that did not receive a scholarship/training opportunity from any American or other donor institution within the last two years. For example, from the U.S. Embassy, USAID, Chevening, etc….
